Jelca Kollatsch studied Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences (BA). Her practice focuses on topics related to inequality and lack of access to health care.
In 2015 Jelca won the CNN Journalist Award (in Photography category) for her work about lifes' of ordinary people during the financial crisis in the south of Spain. This body of work was self-published as bilingual book 'Beyond the Sounds of Castanets' (Jenseits der Kastanetten-Klänge) in German and Spanish in 2014.
In January 2016 Jelca finished her body of work 'Where poverty makes sick' on substandard medical care in rural areas of the United Stated of America, which appeared in a number of print publications such as Süddeutsche Zeitung, Publik, Asphalt.
Jelca currently lives between Hannover, Germany, and London where she is finishing her Masters Degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication. She is represented by the German photo agency Visum.
